I have been concerned about the drought we are having in California, but my daughter in the Philippines brought to my attention that it is not just California that is experiencing droughts. It’s happening all over the world. Yet it seems to me that we are not really paying attention. We’ve never experienced this before so we don’t know what it looks or feels like so for many there has been no change in their routines.
We don’t have to always learn from experience. We can look at the past. In Biblical times when there was a drought, everything died. Crops, livestock, people. It also brought with it plague and pestilence. Joseph was given the interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream that not only foretold of the coming years of drought but was his doorway to greatness. (Genesis 41) 9 years ago many Prophets saw the drought coming. I too saw 7 years of fat and 7 years of lean. They warned us to prepare because the drought was coming. Most people can’t even see the drought until year 4 or 5 when things begin to stop being replenished. It’s here guys and it’s been here for at least a couple of years now! But the sad thing is that many cannot see it because there is still food on the shelves. They can’t understand the true meaning of drought, but look at this: · Lack of water · Diseases, waterborne illness and cardio-respiratory illness, · Famine (due to crop failure), and · Reduced living conditions (due to higher electricity demands) · Even a decrease in sea life because of the warmer climates. In 1984-1985 drought led to a famine, which killed 750,000 people in the Horn of Africa. Drought can also kill a person's faith or strengthen it, but it all depends on how prepared a person is for the drought. In times of drought we are supposed to store up and ration. You can’t tell me that you haven’t felt the urge to store water at least once in the last few years. And some of you did it for a short period and then let it go. I admit that I also fall in that category. We have approximately 5 more years, and I could be off because I have a bad sense of natural time, but begin to follow that drive now. It’s not too late for you to prepare for the really lean years ahead. Preparation saved Joseph and all of Egypt and preparation can save us. Trust in God that He will help you to prepare. Be blessed!
